FREQUENT QUESTIONS

Here you will find frequently asked questions about buying a safe and much more.

If your question is not answered here, our competent team will be happy to help you by phone or e-mail

In order to be able to answer this question in the best possible way, you need to think about what you will need to store in the safe. You are dealing with a few documents, they are valuables such as a collection of coins, jewelry, etc. or do you want to store a considerable number of files?

Do not choose a safe that is too small, as it is known that more space is needed than previously thought.

Safes with removable or adjustable shelves allow more flexibility than safes that do not have or a single fixed shelf.

The way to choose a business safe is different from how to choose a private one

Private area - private values

You can store only a few files in your home, but you will find important personal items - for example, data carriers for special events, jewelry, cash, postage stamps, handguns, etc. These are called private values.

Business area - commercial value

In business life, despite the increase in digitalization, there are still a lot of important files (employee data) that need to be locked on paper, daily slogans, data carriers, credit cards, etc. These are commercial values.

Of course, you should also think about the best place for the safe. This question also plays a role in selecting the safe size. Will the safe be integrated into a piece of furniture, is it self-contained or do you want to install it in the wall? Will it be installed in the office, in the living room, in the basement?

How often will you open the safe - if you want to be able to access it quickly, the space in the attic may not be suitable, but a place where you spend time every day. If you take your passports out of the safe only once a year - then you can "hide" them.

Each lock has advantages and disadvantages. You may lose a key or forget a code, but choosing the lock makes no difference to the security level. Here you will find an overview of the different locking options with their advantages and disadvantages.

This question deserves a lot of attention.
A simple key locker is a different purchase than a fireproof document safe, a compact hotel safe is different from a safe for dangerous weapons and ammunition.

Security levels for safes

Safes without security levels are usually single-walled safes and offer only a low level of protection against burglary; the value of the insurance can only be clarified with the insurance company.

Safes with security levels are subjected to different tests and are always certified with the respective badge, which provides information about the independent testing institute that has been tested and what security level it has.

Each level of security must meet certain criteria; the higher the level, the safer the safe.

Burglary protection tests the forced opening time of the safe (without code or key). This time is measured in RU = resistant units.

Details on security levels can be found here

In addition to burglary protection, there are also fire protection classes, these are two different classifications. A burglary safe must not be fireproof or a fire protection safe must not have a high burglary resistance class. But, of course, there are safes that have both a high level of burglary and fire protection. Let us advise you!

Fire protection, on the other hand, tests how long documents or data carriers can withstand fire, steam and water spray at a high temperature, either for 30, 60 or 120 minutes.

Further information on fire protection classes can be found on this page.

Rottner Tresor recommends securing all safety products under 1000 kg securely. Why?

Because otherwise the burglar does not even try to break the safe, but simply transports it.
The insurance will not pay damages in this case.

You can anchor the safe - depending on the type of product - in the wall and/or on the floor, usually, the appropriate fastening material is included.

Important!
Check the condition of the floor and wall. The safe must be anchored in a solid component - preferably concrete (not anchored in wood, drywall, etc.) and, if in doubt, consult a specialist.

Also, make sure that there is no underfloor heating or other important pipes (electricity, water ...) under the safe and remove the baseboards so that the safe can be mounted on the wall.

The door hinges will definitely appreciate a few drops of lubricating oil to be flexible again. Apply a little oil and wipe off excess fat with a cloth.

Instructions for use are included in each safe, but of course, you can move them once and then you need them.

On the following page you can search for your safe and download the appropriate operating instructions for the lock:
